Flavors

• release - every six months
• stable - a release plus patches
• current - development branch

Filesystem

• / - root directory
• /bin - user utilities
• /dev - device files
• /etc - config files and scripts
• /home - user home directories
• /mnt - a temporary mount point
• /root - home directory for root
• /tmp - temporary files, cleaned after a reboot
• /usr - user utilities and applications
• /usr/local - third-party software
• /var/www - chroot directory for httpd(8)

Configuration files

• /etc/installurl - mirror server location
• /etc/myname - default hostname
• /etc/mygate - default gateway
• /etc/hosts - known hosts on the network

Basic commands

• pwd - working directory name
